The Woodhouse Centre celebrates 50 years this year and is looking forward to celebrating with a whole series of events and celebrations. They will also be attending several local markets, selling the crafts made at the Centre.

The Woodhouse Centre has been invited to take part in the Christmas Tree Festival at The Oxted United Reform Church . The Festival runs from Tuesday 20 – Thursday 22 December from 16:00 – 19:00. It’s £1 entrance fee (children free) which will be donated to CRISIS.

The Centre’s tree represents the friendly, creative environment of the Woodhouse Centre, a local charity that aims to combat social isolation amongst the local retired and disabled adult community.

The Bamboo was donated by the current captain of the Artisan Gresham Golf Club, who are supporting the Centre by kindly choosing us as their “charity of the year”.

The Bindings represent the materials we use at the Centre to repair chairs (real reed, bamboo cane, seagrass, natural reed, paper rush and wool).

The Angel represents our lovely volunteers, friends and supporters who contribute so much to the Centre. It’s made from recycled coffee bean bags.

The Fir represents our volunteer gardeners (Melinda and also The Oxted and Limpsfield
Horticultural Society) who tend our gardens throughout the year for the wider Oxted community to enjoy.

The Knitted Jumpers and Decorations represents our traditional crafts which can be purchased or commissioned at the Centre.

The Stable and the hanging Acorns were made by our thriving Men-in-Sheds group. Here you can learn, share and improve woodworking skills. The club is open to all and we also welcome commissions and repairs from local residents.

The Nativity figures were created by our upholstery team. At the Woodhouse Centre, we run a busy upholstery department, taking commissions to restore tired piano stools, drop-in seats, footstools etc either using fabrics from our well stocked store cupboard or making use of the customer’s own.

The linked Chain of people represents the various support groups in the area that use our hall in the evenings. As our building is in such a central location, it provides an ideal meeting place for one-off creative groups or regular group meetings.

The tiny Hanging wreath, cinnamon sticks and orange pieces represents the workshops we hold to promote the Centre, raise funds and transfer our creative skills to the wider community.

The remaining Decorations have been lovingly created by our members and show our creativity and willingness to embrace new ideas and skills in the Centre.
